BJ Communicates, aka Dr. Brad Johnson, LSSBB, CSM, is a Kingdom writer, a communication practitioner, and an influential Bible teacher. Given the assignments of assisting urban believers in articulating their stories, finding the resolution, and gaining the language of the Kingdom, BJ continually creates and releases inspirational media content that highlights their stories and experiences. "The Holy Spirit is constantly giving me things to write; sometimes it's a book, sometimes it's an article for a Christian publication, sometimes it's something for my blog site or social media, and sometimes it's a song for another recording artist or me, I'm just the pen in His hand," says BJ. In addition to faith-based media creator, he is the owner of Communic8 Life Consulting, a communication consulting firm specializing in assisting couples, families, and business teams in improving their interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, he is the co-pastor of the urban café church Transformed City in Richmond, VA.

ABOUT THE NOVEL...

Sometimes it's the conversations not had that do the most damage to the people in our lives. Hard Conversations is a collection of short stories detailing the lives of five urban people standing at the intersection of their past and potential. Sensing that something is still off in the lives that they have built, each has to make the crucial decision whether to address their secrets long-buried or to continue living in the uncomfortable matrix they created. Only they can decide what their future will bring.

EXCERPTS...

Our gifting often becomes our prison. I wrote this book to pull back the mask on our experience, hoping that it compels us to confront our learned ability to whitewash our pain with our talent and giftings. We are often taught that the most outstanding value we bring to the world is solely present in what we do, what we earn, or how well we play. In reality, our most significant value is in the stories that we can articulate to those we influence once we have reached the other side of trauma. Trauma that tried to silence our voice, a trauma that caused a part of us to die in the fight, and trauma that threatened us to stay silent after our experience with it because we should just be grateful that we made it to the other side.

How to meet deadlines and remain sane…

I meet deadlines by pacing myself.  If I know that I have something that I am trying to complete over the next month, I create a plan to work on it on certain days for specific periods.  I also build in make-up days if my schedule is thrown off by an unexpected event or situation.  If I don't plan out a path to meet my deadlines, then I already know I will be frustrated and probably not complete the task.  I have learned to release myself from the stress of deadlines by working toward them strategically while holding the concept in mind that I can only do my best.  When I feel the creeping trap of anxiety coming over me, I pray and remind myself that I am only one person, and I can only give it my best.  I have learned to release myself from the pressure that sometimes we put on ourselves to do everything perfectly.  I am imperfect and will miss my deadlines every now and again; I give myself grace and assess how to improve next time.  I refuse to allow obligations to cause me to lose my mind; that wouldn't be good for anyone.  Life is to be enjoyed while living our assignments.  Set goals, hold yourself accountable, work toward your deadline, and remember your humanity requires self-imposed grace.

"Hard Conversations: Book 1: Breadcrumbs to the Past" by BJ Communicates

My Opinion:

'Hard Conversation' has five short stories that give us' Breadcrumbs to the Past' Book 1 and leave us with Cliffhangers which means the reader will have to wait to get the other half or part of the story.

So the story starts ...
'I Don't Know Her' Will this person be able to find out the answers he needs from his birth mom Barbara? Is this the reason he is having so much trouble with the way his life is going for him?

next...
'No More Sunday Dinner'
After what Shay Robinson had to endure from her uncle, will she finally be able to come back to Houston after the death of her Mamma Hattie and confront Uncle Frank for what he had done to her at the age of eight?

next...
'Angel Dust and Guitars'
With what had gone on in this family, would Angel Christopher ever want a family of his own? First, his father beat his mom, and he wanted nothing to do with him. Then Angel meets Lisa, things changed, and after she becomes pregnant, they decide to make it work... When he returns home, guess who is waiting for him...his father wanting to talk; however, he was someone Angel didn't want to speak with under any circumstances.

next...
'Another Life'
He was supposed to be a perfect and excellent father, but Jamal Jackson had a big secret, and Trina finds out about it while attending Fisk when she hooks up with a tutor that was her look alike. What was up with that? What will the DNA prove? What will happen at Kim's graduation when Trina confronts her dad and says, 'Hi, dad.'

and lastly...
'Broken Silence'
Due to a fight with his wife at their home caused by her father, Maxine was paralyzed due to a fall and ended her in a wheelchair. After serving many years in prison, he got out due to good behavior and wanted to talk with his daughter, which she had refused many times.
Her mother had suddenly taken ill and was taken to the hospital where Maxine came to see her only who do you think was there at the hospital? Well, I guess her father got his answer for Maxine was adamant when she said...' No Stop, I am not ready for this.'

As was stated earlier, this novel, Book 1, was a cliffhanger of sorts, so I guess we will get the rest of the story in Book 2. Be ready for well-written stories that will leave the reader only wanting more answers to their ending.

                                    ABOUT THE BOOK...

What happens when children can’t trust the adults who are supposed to protect them?

With childhood innocence snatched from her, Dr. Eurita Taylor questioned God. For years, she ran from Him and into the arms of abuse, hunger, and depression. With her personal prodigal son experience, she released the hurt, betrayal, and abandonment to make her way back to the lover of her soul. His Strength in My Weakness chronicles her journey from wallowing in pity, doubt, and unbelief to reconnecting with Her Father. Showered with grace, mercy, and an abundance of love, she understood that the power to overcome was always in reach.

In this book, you will discover:

• Why God wants to turn your self-hatred into self-love

• Strategies to boost your confidence and faith

• How to shift your perspective to see failures as steps toward success

• Scriptures, prayers, and inspirations affirming that He is always with you

• Forgiveness as a tool to bless others and yourself

Praise for His Strength In My Weakness

“Dr. Taylor’s story told in her book, His Strength in My Weakness, is powerful, compelling, and at times, raw. She provides a roadmap that shows that no matter how difficult life can be, you can experience hope, breakthrough, and triumph with God.”

—Pastor Michael Kelly, Grace Fellowship Church Columbus, Ohio

“As I laid in the hospital bed and heard the doctor say, ‘You should have been dead,’ I thought about how reading His Strength in My Weakness comforted me. I am not a spiritual person and had a limited understanding of the Bible references, but I read them over and over. Now I believe that He has a reason for keeping me alive.”

—Cheryl Kaiser, Manager at Speedway

My Place of Serenity

By Dr. Eurita Taylor

Writing was never easy for me. When God laid it on my heart to turn my dissertation into a book, I assumed I heard wrong. It was not what He wanted. After many doubts and delays, I went for it. As I wrote, I noticed how different it was when I wrote in my strength compared to when I allowed God to direct me.

My writing inspiration usually comes as I drive to work. I listen to praise and worship music. As I sing along, a Bible Scripture and a message to add to my book, His Strength in My Weakness (HisStrengthTheBook.com), come to me. God reminded me of situations that shifted my life. For instance, “The letter to daddy” was added as a final touch. I thought the incidents were behind me, and I had dealt with them, but that was not the case. As God showed me myself, I looked deep inside. I recognized situations that I needed to address. I still struggled with my father hitting me with a frozen piece of meat. I had not released the uncle who molested me and changed the way I felt about my body. Writing that letter gave me closure because it allowed the healing process to start. I learned to forgive them and myself.

Once at the office, I settled into my cubicle, grabbed my headphones, and listened to gospel music. I chose that genre because I noticed that God used that time to speak to me. During lunch and breaks, the manuscript poured out of me and onto the pages. The words came without me thinking of what to write. On the days that I did not get into that serene space, I struggled. I wrote my own thoughts. The difference between my forced writing and that inspired by God is massive.

Dr. Eurita Taylor is gifted to understand the unique struggles of single mothers. As a survivor of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, she feels their pain and walks beside them on the only path to freedom from binding insecurities and directs them to His glory. An accountant by day and counselor by night, Dr. Eurita uses her personal experiences, professional skills, and Ph.D. In Christian counseling to empower women struggling with low self-esteem, homelessness, and financial stewardship. DrEuritaTaylor.com, 'His Strength in my Weakness,' is a good read that is worth picking up and seeing what this author is saying to all.

Review:
"His Strength in my Weakness: A Journey of Brokenness, Breakthrough, and Transformation" by DR. EURITA TAYLOR

My Opinion:

"His Strength in my Weakness" was a read of a single mother and how God brought her out of her situation. This author went through some of it all from being a survivor of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.' Reading through her novel, I could only hope, and it was good to see how it worked out in her life-giving her 'a smile and even a laugh again.' It was a good read to see how one's life was taken from 'mess and distress and transformed her into the strong, confident woman she is today.' The title of Dr. Taylor's novel conveys what her life was like and takes one on a  'Journey of Brokenness, Breakthrough, and Transformation.'  The introduction starts with one world...Forgiveness..without that, can we move forward?... Letter to Daddy...And then on from chapters 1-17, the reader gets quite a read of what all Dr. Eurita Taylor went through to get where she is today...from 'Humble Beginnings to Sheer Willpower.'

What was this novel about that will keep one turning the pages?

As the story from her beginnings...as Eurita deals with her parents and a strange uncle.. harsh disciple received...to moving to the East Coast from the Caribbean... an Antigua...meets and marries Carl... what will happen when the children start coming? ..was this to be a good marriage without God in their lives? ...move to South Bend, Indiana as ...Children continue coming...Friendships...Defeated and Deflated...Sweet Surrender...A New Beginning...Renewed Level of Faith...My God is Real...Sheer Willpower...to the Conclusion.

It was nice to have in each of the chapters having 'Biblical Applications,' which went along so well this what had happened in that chapter, along with a Prayer offered and several questions asked from the previous read. And at the end...God's Promise...to all!

To get it all, the reader must pick up and read this novel to understand how Eurita's life changed for her good truly. It was so good to see Eurita having good friends in her life as to Ms. Linda and several pastors that seemed to always be there for her just at the right time. Everyone can use a good friend.

When Eurita thought she was going into the accounting field with two degrees, it was good to see how her life changed, getting her doctorate Ph.D. in Christian Counseling instead and becoming a Christian Counselor/Motivational Speaker...now doing what God wanted in her life.

The story was about how 'God transformed Dr. Taylor into the virtuous lady she is today.' It was so good seeing how 'God had taken her life's mess and distress and transformed her into a strong, confident woman' here the 'final chapters of her life [and ours] are still being written.' All in all, this was quite a beautiful read of how one life changed for its good after she got on the right path to receive His word. And it is offered to all who believe in His word.
