Genre: Christian Non-Fiction

ABOUT THE AUTHOR...

Erven Kimble has been happily married to Jacquelyn Kimble for over thirty-five years, is the father of five sons and one daughter, and has seven grandchildren. They are both natives of Houston, Texas. Erven attended the University of Houston, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He later received his Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Logos Christian College and Graduate School.

Erven worked in cooperate sales and marketing for over 25 years with major computer companies; he served as a community leader and activist for over 30 years. Erven accepted a huge pay cut when he left his corporate management position to answer the call of God on his life to serving as Senior Pastor at a church in the northeast suburbs of Atlanta for over 24 years, where he grew to love, nurture and help hundreds of congregates grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Erven is the founder and CEO of Life ANEW Global Ministries, which offers virtual training that helps believers learn how to live out the New Life found ‘in Christ.’ He is an accomplished teacher, community leader, and activist, a licensed Christian Counselor, a Racial Unity Coach entrepreneur, and now an author. Besides, he is an international business developer, helping Christian entrepreneurs gain success in the Health & Wellness industry.

Pastor Kimble also worked as a Development Director with a nonprofit ministry, a career move that eventually led him to attend a life-changing weekend Men’s Retreat. There, his encounter with the Holy Spirit led him to understand the racial bias in the hearts of so many believers in the contemporary Church. Now, God has challenged him and placed him in a position to address the generational racial divide within the Christian community.

Erven Kimble authored the book and founded a movement called “Giving Voice to Truth… God’s Heart For Racial Unity”. This represents many of Pastor Kimble’s personal experiences navigating the racial divide. It highlights many years of social and economic differences in the black community and the Voice of God calling for believers to genuinely demonstrate the love of Christ and the justice of God in obedience to His Word.

The practical applications of many of the principles discussed in this book are explored in the series of virtual meetings called “Truth Talks About Race!”. The purpose of these interactive sessions is to help make the ‘information’ create a ‘transformation’ within the individuals participating.

ABOUT THE BOOK...

When it comes to how our culture should address the issue of Race in America, the voice of God is deafeningly silent. The public dialogue continues without much or decisive input from the contemporary Christian community. In fact, the Body of Jesus Christ in America is pretty much divided along racial lines. This is clearly reflected in the split within the contemporary church along political party lines and social policies. To be sure, there is preaching about how we ought to or how we want to treat one another as children of God. Each voice declares that they are on the right side of history or the right side of the political spectrum, but what about being on the right side of God?

Review:

"Giving Voice To Truth God's Hear for Racial Unity" by Pastor Erven A. Kimble

My Opinion:

The author did a wonderful job "to promote the transformational life of Christ that affords every believer a spiritual new identity as a child of the King."  I could agree to get a sense of the division and strife that exist from this topic; all that is needed is to go on the internet and the news cable channels that we watch daily.  And yes, one will be able to see the 'racial divisiveness' that is in our culture where the lines of separation are very much shown.  So, what is this 'ever-widening of differences that are there along the racial lines all over the world?   Are there "any declarations that will reflect the Voice of God?"  I agree that "when it comes to how our culture addresses the issue of the race in American, the voice of God is very silent on that issue."  Why are we as 'the body of Christ, divided along racial lines?'  I agree that this has to do with the 'reflected in the split with the contemporary Church along the political party lines and social policies.'  Yes, "we are preached about how we ought to, how we should, or even how we want to teach one another as a child of God but are they on the right side of history or the right side of the political spectrum...but in the end, I must agree isn't it about being on the right side of God?"  I received much of the above information from this author's description, and the reader will give one much to ponder over long after the read.

I enjoyed reading through "Giving Voice to Truth" in how the author gives it to the reader in six parts:

In each of these parts, there is something for us to think long and hard about...

Part 1: The Challenge: The Motivation, The Importance of Having Difficult Conversations

Part 2:  Revelation:  Willing to See What We Really Don't See, Closet Racist: My Encounter, Prideful Mentality,          Victim's Mentality, Greed Mentality & Fear Motivation

Part 3:  Illumination:  The Complicity: Slavery and Racism, Recent Apologies for Slavery and Racism, The Catholic Church, The Southern Baptist Convention, United Methodist Church, The Episcopal Church, The Nest Step for the Church & What Is the Cost for the Local Church to Speak Out

Part 4:  Unification Vs. Integration:  The Call to the Church, The Failure of Desegregation, The Value Proposition, The White Culture and Assimilation, The Challenges to Unification, Living Between Two Worlds, Confession/Release/Forgiveness & Forgiving a System Vs. Forgiving a Person

Part 5:  No Longer the Son of a Slave:  The Sons of Slaves and the Sons of Slave Masters, Liberating the Sons and the Daughters, Deliverance From a Slave's Mentality, From Sons of Slaves to the Children of the King, & No Longer the Son of a Slave

Part 6:  Conclusion:  Overview, What Must Happen? What's Next?

From this author, yes, most people understand "the irrefutable reality is that there is systemic racism in America," which is so sad to say.  "Giving Voice to Truth God's Heart for Racial Unity"  was truly a "good book that was aimed at a Biblical premise and approach to establishing an unfeigned dialogue in addressing the issue of systemic racism in America."

If you are interested in how well this author gives his interpretation of this good read of "Giving Voice To Truth:  God's Heart of Racial Unity," you should pick up this read and see for yourself how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

I liked this quote:  "Do read this book!  You will understand so many things so much more fully if you do."

Excerpts...

Chapter Title: Black Roadblocks

Racism is an interesting creature as it can be presented in such an unobscured manner that it slides right over your head. As you trek along in life, the smallest or biggest milestones and accomplishments will somehow take you back to that day and time you were faced with roadblocks. That is when you know for sure that you, too, have come face to face with some form of unacceptance, micro-aggression, racial hostility, double consciousness, or colorism. If you are like me, you have told yourself that you are not bothered by these biases.  However, together with overtime, they can create doubt, lack of confidence, and uneasiness for no logical reason besides the fact that, deep down, you are always trying to ensure you are as good or better than the white athlete, student, or colleague.

MY REVIEW OF 'SHUT'EM DOWN...

Review:

"Shut'em Down" by Tara Hines-McCoy

My Opinion:

Wow! This was some interesting read as you read of 'twenty Black women who have been impacted by racism in the workplace.' As I read about each of these women, all I could do was shake my head, knowing the truth was all over the place; yes, I am a black woman and could identify with many stories. I was left hoping that this novel will get into the hands of white people who need to read this book. It will definitely give you how many of us 'Black Women' feel about the 'White Privileged' as it applies to these racisms and corporate America stories.

I loved the conclusion of 'Shut'em Down' ... "Where Do We go from here?' 'Will there be a change in corporate American when it comes to the treatment of Black women?' All that is left to say is there is hope! But in reality??? There is still a lot left on the table that still needs to be done. We definitely need to know just who our friends are... Black, as well as White. Now, I know I have probably hit some sour areas for many for saying that, but the truth is all right there in front of you, especially if you are a 'Black Educated Woman' and any of these stories have hit you in the face.

Pick up the read and see for yourself how well-written these stories are presented. I am sure you may be able to identify with many of the 20 stories. Thank you to Dr. Carey Yazeed and to all that presented their stories and many I could identify with upfront and center. Hopefully, one of these days, we will be able to say, 'Shut'em Down all the way down!' And that sounds good to me!
